Treatment Recommendations:
Most patterns of stress and tension have been building in your body for years if not decades. Your body has an innate ability to heal, but it needs to be given a chance. I believe that given the chance to become more aware and in tune with our bodies, we can eliminate much of the discomfort from our lives. High quality massage and bodywork offers you this opportunity. I consider 3 sessions, spaced one week apart, to be an excellent approach to addressing long-standing tension and postural habits, with the systematic 10 Session Series being the most effective.
Stress Relief: Stress is a natural and necessary part of life: without a healthy amount of stress in our nervous system and muscles we would not be able to stand. It is the unnecessary tension, the stress that we carry and are not even aware of that wreaks havoc on our lives. Regular massage and bodywork gives your nervous system a well earned and desperately needed respite from the onslaught of our modern day fast paced, stressful lifestyles. I encourage all clients to maintain as active a lifestyle as possible, whether that be yoga, running, walking, swimming, biking, tai chi–all are good to keep your life-force flowing and relieve stress.
Posture Correction: Many people simply don’t feel good in their bodies. Poor posture and tension have a reciprocal relationship, each causing an increase in the other. Poor posture can be a source of tension and pain and it can also be seen as an attempt to avoid that bodily pain. The goal is not to have “perfect posture” but to be able to inhabit your body with more comfort and ease. Tension and postural habits formed over a lifetime can be changed but not in one session.
